Five tips for radiant skin - Tips for Health

Five tips for radiant skin - Tips for Health

London: Radiant and flawless skin is what every woman wants. And here are some new skincare tips to get a beautiful complexion.

It`s known that drinking eight glasses of water a day, using SPF, and having a solid cleansing routine are essential, but the Association of Professional Hair and Makeup Artists reveals their top five tips for radiant skin, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

Here are five tips that you may not have known about:

1. Flip your pillow case: When you sleep, you drool, perspire and sometimes sweat. This goes directly onto your pillow case and sheets, so it`s a must to keep your pillow clean.

To keep it clean, vacuum it with a turbo brush every two weeks. Then wash it on hot (or follow care instructions), shake the pillow out and let dry naturally in sunlight. This regular cleaning will help reduce the bacteria, and nasties in the pillow.

During the week, between washing the sheets, turn your pillowcase inside out and upside down, so that you are getting the side that your face hasn`t been touching. You will be able to notice that this makes a difference in getting clearer skin.

2. Steam up your shower: Going to the spa for a facial is one of the best things you can do for your skin. No matter what type of skin you have, steam is one of the spa’s secret tricks while giving you a facial. It opens your pores, and the gentle heat brings blood to the surface of your skin, which helps it naturally repair itself.

When you’re going to take a shower, turn the temperature hotter than normal, and shut the door for a few minutes. This allows the steam to build up. Once it has a good amount of steam, you have created your own steam room. Take your shower as normal, and over time, your skin will start glowing like never before.

3. Wash your face for longer: You know you should brush your teeth for two minutes, so give the same kind of attention to your skin. When you wash your face, do it for at least two minutes. This allows the cleanser to really do its job, and get into your pores.

4. Don`t touch your face: You touch your face more than you know. The National Health Institute of Bethesda found that people touched common objects an average of 3.3 times per hour and their faces 3.6 times per hour. If you get bacteria on your hands and then touch your face... the bacteria is now on your face. And bacteria cause imperfections.

Touching your face is a harder thing to stop doing than you think, as it happens naturally. How often do you move your hair out of your face? How often do your rub your eyes, or hold your hand up to your face when you sneeze? But the pro tip here is to make a concerted effort to not touch your face and use anti-bacterial gel or wipes to kill all the nasties.

5. Keep your hair clean, and out of your face: Your hair, especially if you have fringe, can lead to spots. The natural oils in your hair can build up and then transfer onto your face. If you use products on your hair, this can also lead to imperfections.

You`re not going to change your hairstyle or stop using products. So the solution is two-fold. First, when you`re at home, push your hair behind your ears, get your fringe off your forehead, and ponytails are your new best friend.

The second is to use products on your hair that will be better for your skin, especially like organic, natural products, as these tend to be gentler on your skin.

Five simple tips to prevent heart disease - Tips for Health

Five simple tips to prevent heart disease - Tips for Health

Heart disease is the number one cause of death worldwide. That doesn’t mean that everyone would get this fatal disease in their life. Although, there are few risk factors you can’t change like family history, sex or age, you can prevent heart disease by taking some precautionary steps.

And, by adopting a healthy lifestyle and taking a balanced-diet today, you can avoid getting heart disease in future. Here are five simple heart disease prevention tips for you to follow:

Exercise regularly: Engage yourself in some type of physical activity for at least 30 minutes a day (five days per week or more). Daily exercise can also decrease stress, which is a risk factor for developing fatal heart disease. Regular exercise or physical activity also helps you maintain a healthy weight and reduce the chances of developing conditions that can lead to poor heart health such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes.

Avoid all tobacco products: If you smoke, find a right method to quit smoking. If you do not smoke, then don’t get into it. Stay away from all forms of tobacco products including the smokeless tobacco. Chemicals in tobacco can damage your heart and blood vessels, leading to narrowing of the arteries. Nicotine in cigarette narrows your blood vessels, forcing your heart to work harder. Also carbon monoxide in cigarette replaces some of the oxygen in your blood when inhaled, which forces your heart to work harder to supply enough oxygen, elevating your risk of heart disease.

Answers to your food choices - Tips for Health

Answers to your food choices - Tips for Health

Here are answers to food choices that often leave you flummoxed

Potato salad vs cole slaw
It's hard to decide between these two tasty and common side dishes. Both are mixed with mayonnaise, but which one is more detrimental to the waist size?
Answer: Potato salad
With more calories, fat and sodium, potato salad loses to coleslaw. The salad is mostly cabbage — a cruciferous veggie that has the fewest caloriesand least fat of any vegetable.

Fried chicken vs steak
If you have a choice between fresh steak or crispy fried chicken, what must you avoid?
Answer: Fried chicken
Nutritionists say fried chicken breast, which has 728 calories and 37 grams of fat. Steak is considered to be a rich source of protein and iron. Just learn to watch your portion size.

Barbecue sauce vs ketchup
Both are yummy and taste amazing ly well with everything that is freshly out of the grill.
Answer: Barbeque sauce
Barbecue sauce narrowly loses out to ketchup. As the latter has fewer calories and a little less salt. Besides, ketchup has more lycopene than barbecue sauce, which is known to be a cancer fighter.

Sweet tea vs soda
While a cold fizzy soda goes well with a meal, sweet tea is summertime favourite.
Answer: Soda
While many may think sweet-tea, soda is loaded with phosphorus, which might affect bone strength. However, in order to be a real winner, the tea has to be homemade. At least with green and black tea, you're getting antioxidants, which help fight the free radicals that can damage your cells.

Peanuts vs chips
Both salty snacks are great to nibble on with drinks or while waiting for dinner to be served.
Answer: Potato chips
Chips have less fat and fewer calories, so how do they lose out to peanuts? Peanuts have fibre, protein, some healthy fat and they're more filling, which means you'll probably eat fewer peanuts. With potato chips, you could eat a million of them and not really feel satisfied. Besides, they are loaded with saturated fats.

Brownie vs chocolate chip
Some would argue that dessert is the best part of any meal. When the choice is between a richbrownie square or a utterly-butterly cookie sprinkled with chocolate chips, you will choose what?
Answer: Brownie
With desserts, size matters Whenever you have sweets, nutritionists advice that you must follow the two-inch rules. For a brownie, that's a little square. If you have one of those mondo cookies, they are 350 calories and above. A small cookie, though, can weigh in at less than 100 calories. If the brownie and cookie are the same size, opt for the cookie — it'll be about half the calories (47 vs. 112).

Hot dog vs Hamburger
A hamburger is double the size of a hot dog, but the latter has a lot of sodium. Which is worse for the system?
Answer: Hot Dog
Hot dogs are loaded with salt. And salt raises blood pressure, which contributes to heart disease. Watch the size of the burger, though — keep it to no more than four bites (the size of a deck of cards.)

The cricketer's family says they are yet to discuss the wedding date as they are still under stress

Sreesanth, who is out on bail after the spot-fixing scandal, had declared a few days back that he would be getting married to his lady love soon after Onam, which falls in September. However, there are still speculations as to who the mystery girl is and what she felt about the accusations against the cricketer. Now, Sreesanth's family, without letting out more details, tells us that she is a member of the Jaipur royal family and that she and Sreesanth are in love.

A source close to the cricketer says Sreesanth and his fiancee have been communicating with each other regularly even after his arrest. "They have known each other for seven years, and the recent issue is not going to affect their relationship," says the source, adding that the girl's father had visited Sreesanth while he was in Tihar jail.

When we asked about her details, the source said, "She would like to maintain her privacy for the time being. All I can say for now is that her name is not Jwala as it was reported in a section of the media."

Sreesanth's sister, Divya, confirms the news and says, "We are yet to discuss the wedding date as the whole family is still under stress. People who are close to Sreesanth know that he has been arrested only on the basis of suspicion."

Divya says the family never believed Sreesanth's link-ups with several women, especially since he was in love. "That Sreesanth had given expensive gifts to two of his girlfriends is also false news,"

Shah Rukh Khan's surprise visit to Sanjay Leela Bhansali - Tips for Health

Shah Rukh Khan gave Sanjay Leela Bhansali a pleasant suprise when he landed up on the sets of 'Ram Leela'. The Bollywood superstar wasapparently there to discuss the dates of their common heroine, Deepika Padukone. SRK couldn't help but admire the ostentatious sets put up by his 'Devdas' maker. His quick-wit at hand, the actor apparently told SLB that he has made a fabulous set. And he also asked him if he was trying to outdo the iconic sheesh mahal set ofDevdas that had stood for years on end at the same studio in Mumbai.

Sanjay loved the compliment, but he also warned SRK not to talk about his Ram Leela set. Apparently, everything around it is kept hush-hush. In fact, those who want to get an aerial view of the edifice from outside cannot do so because it remains covered when they're not shooting.

Ravindra Jadeja: The man from Saurashtra with the golden arm - Tips for Health

Ravindra Jadeja: The man from Saurashtra with the golden arm - Tips for Health

AHMEDABAD: Whatever Ravindra Jadeja is touching these days, everything is turning to gold.

For someone who was not part of the Indian Test team and dropped from the Indian ODI and T20 teams not very long ago, the southpaw from Saurashtra has done extremely well to hog the headlines so frequently, and for all his action on the field and not off it like many of his fellow cricketers.

And the all-rounder who made his Test debut on the strength of his batting is bowling like a man with a golden arm, hardly going wrong and giving the breakthroughs whenever India needed them.

He started off with two triple hundreds in the Ranji Trophy last year and immediately made his Test debut, played successfully in the ODIs and T20s for India and then had a successful IPL campaign.

In the Champions Trophy in England, Jadeja just started from where he left in India. No doubt he has become such a trusted lieutenant to captain MS Dhoni

In his man-of-the-match performance against the West Indies on Tuesday he not only picked up five wickets but was also the most economical among all Indian bowlers. His quota of 10 overs had two maidens, cost him 36 runs and picked the wickets of Johnson Charles, Marlon Samuels, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Sunil Narine and Ravi Rampaul

That two of his victims were leg-before, one bowled and one caught behind also shows that he was accurate to the T and bowling tight length without giving any room for the batsmen to score. Jadeja was in fact enjoying his show and he topped it with a catch of the West Indies skipper Dawyne Bravo off the bowling of Umesh Yadav.

"I was just trying to bowl in the right areas, I played here against England and took two wickets, I'm just trying to give my good performance. I was just bowling wicket-to-wicket and letting the pitch do the rest," Jadeja said after receiving his man-of-the-match award during the post match presentation. His performance was also praised by both Bravo and Indian skipper Dhoni after the match.

"We didn't have enough runs, after the start we got, we deserved to have got 40-50 runs more, having said that, the Indians bowled well in the middle overs. They had their plans and stuck to it," said Bravo.

"Overall a very good performance, they got to a very good start, they seemed like they would get 280 runs or so, our bowlers did very well after that, our bowlers were able to keep the batsmen at their respective ends, didn't let them rotate easily," said Dhoni and added with a smile: "You think I know him (Jadeja) well, but even I'm finding out over a period of time."
